THE AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS IN CAMEROON WITH SAPEC´S GREDOS AS THE SATELLITE CONTRIBUTION SOLUTION

Four venues, three cities and 16 nationals will be part of these tournament that celebrated the opening ceremony and match last 16th of January with a victory of the host, Cameroon, against the Zimbabwe national squad. All matches on this tournament will be broadcasted live from the stadiums, using the GREDOS solution to transport the signal worldwide over satellite to different Broadcast centres.


SAPEC was awarded with this opportunity after a long evaluation process which included a visit of a delegation of Cameroon government officials to SAPEC headquarters in Madrid. This delegation consisted of experts from the Ministry of Communications of Cameroon (MINCOM), the Ministry of Posts and Telecom (MINPOSTEL) and the responsible coordinator of the Cameroon CHAN20 and CAN21 committee (COCAN 20-21/). During this visit, there was made an exhaustive study of SAPEC solution with focus on technical specifications, production procedure and quality certifications.

Each one of the seven delivered kits consists of two (2) units of SAPEC´s solution GREDOS, in 1+1 configuration with an RF switch.

About Gredos
 GREDOS has the capacity to work on HEVC, H.264 and MPEG2 both on 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 for both HDTV and SDTV. With SDI input interface, ASI, RF and IP output. The IP interface admits both Unicast and Multicast sending and reception. It accepts UDP / RTP flows and offers the possibility of emitting and receiving FEC for error correction under the SMPTE2022 standard. A very reliable DSNG solution for DVB-S/S2x contributions or even DTT Distribution with a version with a DTT (DVB/ATSC/ISDB) modulator equipped.

About the Tournament

 The 2020 African Nations Championship, known as the Total African Nations Championship (also referred to as CHAN 2020) will be the 6th edition of the African Nations Championship, a biennial football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) exclusively featuring players from the respective national championships. It was originally hosted from 4 to 25 April 2020 in Cameroon. However, CAF announced on 17 March 2020 that the tournament had been postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 30 June CAF announced that the tournament would be held in January and February 2021.
