SAPEC INCLUDES SRT PROTOCOL ON LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR SOLUTION AFTER JOINING SRT ALLIANCE
SAPEC integrates the SRT protocol in all models of the LAGUNA solution, that now will be also able to carry out secure, high quality and low latency video transport over public IP networks (internet).
The SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) It is an open-source protocol that optimizes streaming performance through unpredictable networks.
With this new feature, LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR (LMP) grows in number of applications offering Broadcasters a new range of possibilities. For example, now it will be possible to transport with one device (1U) up to 8 HD video signals multiplexed (MPTS) or independently (SPTS) over the public internet in low latency. LAGUNA also offers the possibility of storing different layouts where the 8 signals can be configured independently as encoder or decoder. One of the typical applications used nowadays by broadcasters and TV Operators, is to have their back up network over the internet to spare costs from for example a satellite back up network. With the interesting densities and flexibilities of LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR and the advantages of SRT protocol, LAGUNA becomes top solution for this kind of applications. SRT Protocol, applied at the endpoints of the video link, is agnostic to the content and is introduced as part of the stream flow to deliver the best quality and lowest video latency. This protocol detects and adapts to network conditions in real time between the two endpoints helping to compensate for jitter and bandwidth fluctuations due to existing network congestion. Additionally, the SRT has an error recovery mechanism that minimizes packet loss and supports end-to-end AES security encryption, keeping streams safe. For low latency video transmission over IP-based networks, MPEG-TS Unicast/Multicast streams with UDP protocol are generally the chosen configuration. This solution is ideal for protected networks where packet loss is low and can be mitigated by enabling FEC error correction. However, this solution can be expensive and not suitable for use on public networks due to fluctuations and a high packet loss rate.
The SRT, therefore, is confirmed as an ideal solution for the video transport over public IP networks, reducing the costs from UDP and FEC. But most relevantly is that, thanks to the ability to adapt to the changing conditions of public networks, SRT ensures reliable, secure, and real-time transport over these types of networks.
“At SAPEC we are proud to be an SRT Alliance member and we are committed to the collective mission of developing the open-source video transport protocol that delivers secure, high quality, low-latency streaming across unmanaged networks, as for example the public Internet. As evidence of that, we have already integrated this functionality LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR”, states Miguel Cristobal, CEO at SAPEC.
The first step in the development of this new feature started when SAPEC became a member of the SRT alliance. Organization founded in 2017 that already has today more than 350 members. Its mission is to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting the collaborative development of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Open Source. The organization facilitated the necessary information for this development.
During last December 8-10th, SAPEC also participated in the SRT InterOp Plugfest hosted by the SRT Alliance and sponsored by Haivision. InterOp Plugfest gives participants access to leading video streaming technologists, live SRT video streams, and cloud resources to test interoperability with other solutions in the market ensuring in this way, reliability and robustness in SAPEC solutions.
About the SRT Open-Source Project & SRT Alliance
SRT is an open-source video transport protocol and technology stack, developed and pioneeredby Haivision, that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure
streams and easy firewall traversal, bringing the best quality live video over the worst networks.
The SRT Open-Source Project, supported by the SRT Alliance, is a collaborative community of
industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport by
continuously improving open-source SRT. For more information about the project and how to
join the SRT Alliance, visit srtalliance.org. About SAPEC SAPEC develops High-Quality solutions for the TV signal transport in professional Broadcast & Telecom environments. Where a high performance in compression and coding is required in addition to a high reliability that ensures the correct video transport in unattended networks working 365x24x7
To mention some, SAPEC´s SIVAC ONE Solution for HEVC 4K transmissions, or the multi codec, multiformat LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR. Moreover, SAPEC has a wide range of encoders, decoders and IRD for professional video transport.
