Madrid, (25/05/16).-
The AVANTOS HEVC encoders developed by SAPEC received this year’s Panorama Prize (Spanish: Premio Panorama) for Best Broadcasting and Distribution Technology. The delightful and entertaining awards ceremony, held during the first day of the Madrid BIT fair, recognized SAPEC’S AVANTOS encoders as the best Broadcasting and Distribution Technology product.
The Panorama Prizes bring together the whole industry for one special night. The overwhelming participation of the readers of Panorama Audiovisual, who chose the shortlist of finalists for each of the thirteen categories, and a jury composed of recognized industry professionals who cast a secret vote in the presence of a notary, are two of the ingredients which have made these prizes the most important in the industry.
AVANTOS Technology
Based on the ITU-H.265 (HEVC) compression standard, AVANTOS allows video contribution users to improve video quality, or reduce the bitrate required by up to 50%. The new version of AVANTOS supports the Main 422 (8/10 bits) profile for HEVC compression, and offers new characteristics for the delivery of video with less than one second side-to-side delay. The award-winning version from the AVANTOS family consists of four products in total: the VHE5210 encoder and VHD5210 decoder for HD video, and the VSE5210 encoder and VSD5210 decoder for SD video. Featuring support for HEVC, the systems offer a bandwidth saving of between 35 and 50% when compared with the H.264 standard of the previous generation. This allows users to offer a better picture quality for the same bit speed or a reduction in bandwidth to maintain current picture quality. This in turn leads to a significant reduction in contribution/link operating costs.
The new AVANTOS encoders and decoders were made available from the beginning of 2016. Existing AVANTOS customers will have the option of updating their systems remotely via a firmware download and granting of a license.
The AVANTOS family will continue to evolve towards UHD. At BIT2016 the first professional UHD decoder supporting HEVC with professional profiles (Main422) for Ultra High Definition signal contributions was presented.
The award was presented to the SAPEC engineers in charge of the AVANTOS design: Adolfo Martínez and Antonio José Sanchez, who could not contain their excitement and thanked all the voters, the jury and Panorama Audiovisual for awarding them such an important prize.
2016 PANORAMA Awards
The second edition of the Panorama Awards brought together more than 500 professionals in Madrid to enjoy a unique event in which the excitement of the winners, the sensuality of live music and a wonderful setting marked the audiovisual sector’s night of nights.
