RTVE TRUSTS IN LAGUNA FOR NEW CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE CHANNELS La 1, La 2 and Canal 24h BETWEEN MADRID, CATALONIA, AND THE CANARY ISLANDS

SAPEC has been awarded several RTVE projects for different contribution applications between different facilities. The LAGUNA solution has been the item that has tipped the balance in SAPEC’s favour.

In the first project, RTVE required the supply of the necessary encoders and decoders to transport the contribution signal of the TV channels La 1 HD and La 2 HD from the RTVE Centre in Catalonia to Torrespaña (Madrid) and the La 1 HD signal from the Canary Islands to Torrespaña (Madrid).

The equipment had to support among others, HEVC compression in 4:2:2 profile besides a specific number of ASI I/O. Another requirement was that in centres where more than one signal was received, all signals could be decoded on a single device (1RU) with the consequent spare of space. SAPEC presented for this application its range of LAGUNA equipment, a solution that in just 1U allows simultaneously compressing and/or decompressing up to 8 video signals. In this case, the equipment proposed allows compression HEVC (H.265), H.264 and MPEG-2 HD / SD profile 4:2:2, with up to 8 stereo audio services per video channel and allowing simultaneous ASI and IP interfaces.

The Laguna family consist of 4 models that give each customer the possibility to adapt to the appropriate model depending on the number of signals required by each application.

In this project, different LAGUNA models were supplied (DUAL, QUAD and OCTAL) that have allowed RTVE, not only to be very efficient in terms of densities, but also to save the possibility for possible upgrades to a higher number of channels. Furthermore, the flexibility and versatility of LAGUNA will allow RTVE to upgrade the equipment by converting licenses from encoding to decoding and vice-versa, to adapt to new scenarios without the need of purchasing new equipment.

Another awarded Project has been for the contributions of the signals of the 24-hour Channel from Torrespaña (Madrid) to the RTVE centre in Catalonia and to the RTVE centre in the Canary Islands.

RTVE needed a solution that could encode 5 signals and decode 4 signals in HEVC/H.264/MPEG-2. Other requirements of the project were, for example, that all the equipment had to be stand-alone (processing of only 1 signal per equipment), that it would be possible to insert a logo in the encoding side, as well as perform down-conversion in decoding side. As for audios, a processing density of 8 audio (stereo) per video channel was required. Both ASI and IP I/O interfaces were required, as well as redundant power supplies on all units.

In this project, SAPEC proposed also LAGUNA in encoding side, using 5 LAGUNA DUAL encoders that made it possible to encode a HEVC/H.264/MPEG-2 signal in a 4:2:2 profile and 4 GREDOS units as decoders, which allow ASI and IP I/O ( 2 ASI ports and 2 IP ports), incorporating 2 identical outputs, 3G-HD-SDI, 1 HDMI monitoring output and composite video output (SD) in addition to everything required.

With these two projects, not only SAPEC reinforces and reaffirms its relationship with the Spanish public broadcaster, but also, LAGUNA MEDIA PROCESSOR has established itself in the multi-channel contribution market.
